Interacting with the NPAC

npac sub page image 200x200 law enforcement LEFT A.jpgAs the telecom industry's common, authoritative database for all Local Number Portability (LNP) activity, the NPAC is used for routing, rating and billing of telephone numbers that are no longer assigned to the original company that was assigned the North American Numbering Plan code by the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA).

The NPAC Customer Portal provides authorized NPAC users with access to training materials, user documentation, billing information and support information.

There are three reasons a telephone number might need to be ported:

  1. Inter-carrier or competitive porting: when a telephone number moves from the current service provider to a new service provider.
  2. Intra-carrier porting: when a telephone number moves from one switch to another within the same telecommunications service provider's network.
  3. Number pooling: when a telephone number moves to a new service provider in blocks of 1,000 to create an inventory of unassigned telephone numbers
